Turkey Treats
Nov. 23, 00 |
Here are a few more of the swaps we did the other day. The first one is a cute turkey Celeste brought using the sweet centers treat cup. The feathers are stamped and there are also 3 scallop circles for feathes.

Christmas Cards
Nov. 17, 00 |
We had a wonderful time the other day making cards. Karen and Nelda came up from Birmingham and Kathy, Mary R. Kristi, Celeste and I all stamped at Thelma's house. We had a wonderful time and she even made us some delicious Taco Soup or I should say Patrick her husband did. We all brought a card to do and Celeste also brought a turkey to do using the Sweet Cups. I think I need to make some for my Thanksgiving table.

Card using Tree Trimmings by Kristi

Card using More the Merrier (Level 3 Hostess) by Kathi and Window Sheets

I'll be back tomorrow to show you the rest of the cards.

My Mom
Nov. 16, 00 |
Sorry for the long time between posts. My mom passed away at the beginning of the month after a 5 year battle with cancer. She had a very rare kind of cancer that only 150 people a year get, an islet cell neuroendocrine tumor. We were told at first that she had 3 months to live but she proved all of her doctors wrong, she was so amazing! We were lucky she was told this because when we heard this we found a doctor in Boston, Dr. Matthew Kulke, who gave us hope and my mom another 5 years. He prescribed Thalidomide, the drug from the 50's that caused all of the birth defects. It cuts off the oxygen supply to the tumor so it can not grow and her tumor was the size of a football when it was found.
So when it came time to pick out the cards at the funeral home we just could not choose one, we hated them all. So after some discussion we decided to make our own. My husband was great and he packed up a huge list of stuff I needed, got a few things from my upline Joann, and overnighted a box to me. We grew up in a small Michigan town where all of the railroads meet. The train was central to her life growing up in the 1940's. It was their ride to the Fenton dime store, Christmas at grandma's in Pontiac and so much more. She loved the trains! It only made sense to us that we used this image which is now retired, (sorry)

This is a pocket card. On the pull out we had my mom's details. On the back which is what you see here all of us kids all wrote a line of something we remember about her. Mine is the one you see. When we moved to Alabama I took my mom shopping one day and before I knew it she was entertaining (and embarrassing me) the entire store while a man taught her how to say Y'all. From that day on it showed up on almost every card she did. My mom was the sticker queen, I have mentioned that before so under the pull-out we put 3 of her stickers there as a surprise.

The tree is from Le Jardin and is stamped in Not Quite Navy on White CS. The details on both are printed on our white velum and layered on top of the CS. The leprechaun was drawn by my niece.
We also did the program for the service. No stamping on it but I thought I would share it. The top is a photo we layered on paper.

On the inside we had a poem I found some years ago. I do not know who wrote it but wanted to share it with you. On the back of the program we thanked our father for the wonderful care he gave our mom. I am not sure how he did it at times. It was a 24-7 job, especially the last year. We had hospice but they were terrible! I have always heard raves about hospice and I know there are good ones but ours especially the last couple of weeks when we needed them the most, may of well not been there. Sometimes we would call for help and they would not even call back or would wait hours to call. Thanks to my sister and niece who are both nurses that they were there by moms side the last 2 weeks.
Remembrance
You can shed tears that she is
gone,
or you can smile because she has
lived.
You can close your eyes and pray
that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and
see all she has left.
Your heart can be empty because
you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love
you shared.
You can turn your back on
tomorrow
and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow
because of yesterday.
You can remember her
and only that she's gone,
or you can cherish her memory
and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back,
or you can do what she'd want.
Smile, open your eyes,
love and go on.
I also did a thank you card for my dad to send out.

The stamp set here is Thoughts and Prayers. It is hard to see but the background is embossed with the SIzzix Petals a Plenty. I cut an oval out of the center of the embossing folder. The color is Night of Navy.
I'll be back tomorrow with some Christmas cards. The day after I got back I spent the day stamping with friends so I have about 8 new cards to share.
Hug your mom!
